Protecting New Hampshire's natural environment for wildlife and for people.

Charles Henry & Mabel Lamborn Watts (Watts)

(Effingham)

This 200+ acre woodland on the Ossipee River is a gift of Patricia and Charles Watts II, in memory of his parents.

The area is largely composed of mixed forest with wooded swamp interspersed. Wildlife openings left from previous forest management, and wetland areas associated with a stream and the Ossipee River system provide an interesting diversity of habitats for creatures such as river otter, beaver, waterfowl, and the pileated woodpecker.

The Watts family has cared for this land for the past 60 years; Charles' father kept records of his bird sightings alongside the river (which included occurrences of the Bald Eagle). It was this connection to their special property that led them to protect it.

Our trails on the Watts Wildlife Sanctuary are in an early stage of development, so please come prepared for rough and/or wet footing. Snow-shoeing should be ideal.
